The volunteer search and rescue organization Coastguard New Zealand is expected to receive a donation of $ 50,000 from the sale of a stately waterfront property with its own working lighthouse.
The 26ha north-facing headland property at Cape Rodney on the Leigh Peninsula, just north of Auckland, comprises approximately 1.5 miles of real estate coastline – with exclusive access to its own private beaches.
Bordering the protected lands of the Goat Island Marine Preserve, the clifftop property at 100 Omaha Block Rd sits on the headland that separates Pakiri Beach to the north and Omaha Beach to the south and is located directly across from Little Barrier. Island.
At the tip of the landholding is a working lighthouse which has been a flashing lighthouse since 1967, producing a beam of LED light projecting 10 nautical miles into the Hauraki Gulf. The fully automated solar powered lighthouse is owned by Maritime New Zealand.

Now the lifestyle property at 100 Omaha Block Access Rd has been marketed for sale by negotiation through Bayleys Matakana.
Salesperson Kellie Bissett said with a multi-million dollar price tag attached, the philanthropic-minded seller pledged to contribute $ 50,000 of the product to Coastguard New Zealand when the eventual sale closes.
Coast Guard Director General Callum Gillespie said: âThe Coast Guard is delighted with the offer of this generous gift.
“The Leigh Lighthouse has protected sailors for decades and the gift to the Coast Guard from the sale of the property continues this tradition and will help save lives at sea.”
Bissett said the provider was a strong supporter of emergency services – having previously made private donations to support local services.
âIt was an obvious choice – to be a waterfront property with a working lighthouse on its headland and the connection to the farmhouse and the sea flowing deep in the veins of the vendors. They are passionate about animals and marine life and this is recognized through their gesture.
Bissett said hundreds of pohutukawa trees and thousands of other New Zealand natives have been planted in pockets across the hilly country block, and the property has a base of four bedrooms and of a cedar house from the 1980s integrating an independent studio.
There is also access to several swimming and snorkeling sites, with magnificent rock outcrops along its edges. Riparian rights also meant that a new owner could consider adding new trails and trails from the property to the water.
The hilly property has pasture for cattle and the northern aspect and the sale includes the original mowing shed, secure storage for farm machinery and equipment, numerous water tanks and stockyards. The property is private and no easement crosses it.
