The Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority (CICPA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ordered a new patrol vessel for coastguard operations at the 2021 Naval Defense & Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) in Abu Dhabi on February 23.

Shujaa (P5004) was commissioned in a ceremony held at ADNEC Marina in Abu Dhabi on February 23 during NAVDEX 2021. (ADNEC)

Completed at Albwardy Damen Shipyard in Dubai,
Shujaa
(P5004) is part of a new class of patrol boats entering service with CICPA based on Damen’s Stan Patrol 5009 design.

According to information presented at NAVDEX 2021,
Shujaa
has a total length of 50.1 m, a width of 9.4 m and a draft of 3.5 m.

Two 10m or 11m Rigid Hull Interceptor Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) are carried on the aft deck, while a smaller RHIB is launched via an after ramp. The ship’s armament is listed as a 30mm gun mount and two STAMP 12.7mm remote machine guns, although none of the gun systems were installed on
Shujaa
when it is put into service. The sensors include two navigation radars, including an S Alphatron JRC S-band package.

CICPA ships include a few bespoke modifications, including four aft exhausts instead of the more common side exhausts seen on this type, and what appear to be two foredeck booms (recessed in the bulwarks) that are possibly for the pollution control.
